West Ham United 4-0 West Bromwich Albion
31 August 1968
Division One

West Ham United wrapped up a third successive league win with an emphatic victory over West Bromwich Albion on this day 47 years ago.

Having put five past Burnley just five days earlier at the Boleyn Ground, the Hammers again romped home, with midfielder Martin Peters taking home the match ball.

For Peters, this hat-trick extended an exceptional goal-scoring streak, with some six goals in his last four outings. Fellow midfielder Harry Redknapp was also on target, as Ron Greenwood's side, now third in the standings, made it five league wins out of seven in the new campaign.

Incidentally, their fine form in front of goal continued four days later, when second-division Bolton Wanderers came a cropper at the Boleyn Ground in the League Cup. This time it was Geoff Hurst who did the damage, netting three times in a thumping 7-2 success.
