Young midfielder George Dobson is relishing the opportunity to get one over his former club Arsenal when the two sides meet at the Emirates on Friday 28 August.
Having spent ten years at the north London side, Dobson rose through the ranks to captain the U18s as well as compete in the Under-19 UEFA Youth League.
Now at his beloved West Ham, the central midfielder described his excitement at facing his former teammates: “Our next game away at Arsenal is definitely special for me, particularly as it is at the Emirates. I was there for a good ten years so there’s a lot to prove in that game, I’m really looking forward to it.
“I’m looking forward to facing some old teammates. They’re all good players so it’ll be a challenge, but one I’m definitely looking forward to. Hopefully we can get a result and get the first win of the season.”
Having swapped north London for east during the summer, Dobson made his Development Squad debut in a narrow 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Monday 24 August at Rush Green.
Partnering Dev Squad captain Josh Cullen in the middle of the park, Dobson impressed against the Villans, shielding the defence while creating a number of chances for his teammates.
Reflecting on his debut, Dobson surmised: “I thought I did alright, obviously the result was disappointing. I thought in the first half, we dominated the game, especially in the last 20 minutes before half time we played some nice stuff.
“This is my first game for the West Ham U21s and hopefully the first of many, that’s the ambition. I want to play regularly for the U21s and then hopefully pushing on to the first team in the future.”
Now a member of the Hammers’ famous Academy of Football, Dobson is hoping to follow in the footsteps of some of his childhood heroes.
He beamed: “I absolutely love it at West Ham so far. I’m a West Ham fan so it’s an honour to play for the Club you support. I’m loving every minute and I just to keep working hard and see what happens really.
“The aim is to add to the history here at Rush Green, some of the names that have come through here are very well known. I just have to take it day by day and keep focused on improving.”
