As West Ham United get their final season at the Boleyn Ground underway, we’ve asked our players for some memorable lasts from their careers and lives, as well as some firsts. Today, Martin Samuelsen goes under the spotlight…
FIRSTS

What was the first car you ever drove?
My first ever car was a Vauxhall Astra, nothing too flash but it got the job done.

What was the first ever football game you watched?
That must’ve have been a game my sister was playing in, I was only about three years old. We used to live in California at the time; she played for a team called Shooting Stars.

What was the first footballer you remember admiring?
That’s easy! Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he’s my childhood hero. In Norway, he is everybody’s hero, for what he achieved for Norwegian football, he’s a legend.

What was your first day at West Ham United like?
It was earlier this year in March, I came for a ten-day trial. I remember going to the office at Rush Green, talking to a lot of the staff. Later that day I was taken on a tour of Upton Park and I went to see West Ham play Chelsea, which we were very unlucky to lose. That night, the atmosphere and the fans showed me what a great Club West Ham is.

Who was the first West Ham player to make you feel really welcome here?
Adrian, he was excellent at introducing me to the players and it really helped me to settle in quickly and make me feel welcome.
LASTS

What was the last dinner that you made for yourself?
Just the other day I had a good meal with my parents; I made grilled chicken with this type of pasta with ham inside and tomato sauce, and a salad on the side.

What was the last film you went to see at the cinema?
That was Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation with Tom Cruise, it was very good. I’m a big fan of action movies.

What was the last thing you bought for your apartment?
I’ve just moved into a new apartment so I’ve bought a lot of useful household things. I think the last thing I ordered was a new hoover the other day, it should arrive any day now.

What was the last TV series you really got into?
I haven’t connected Sky to my new TV yet so I’ve been missing out on a few things. The last series I properly got into was a while ago... I think it must have been Games of Thrones, I really like that show.
