West Ham United's unbeaten start to the 1989/90 campaign continued with a 3-2 win over Plymouth Argyle at the Boleyn Ground on this day 26 years ago.
Martin Allen, who would go on to score 34 goals in 234 games for the Hammers, was making his debut in claret and blue, and could not have got off to a better start, notching in his first game for the Club.
Kevin Keen and David Kelly also hit the back of the net in front of a 20,231 Boleyn Ground crowd.
Argyle scored two goals themselves, but the Hammers just held the edge to move to the head of the table with seven points from their first three games.
They would have to wait another year for promotion however, as this campaign ended in a seventh place finish.
