West Ham United 1-0 Reading
Coca-Cola Championship
10 August 2004
The Hammers continued their unbeaten start to the 2004/05 campaign with a 1-0 victory over Reading in their first home outing.
Having drawn 0-0 at Leicester on the opening day, Alan Pardew's Hammers welcomed the Royals to the Boleyn Ground for a midweek fixture.
West Ham were recovering from the blow of defeat in the play-off final just over two months previously, but remained solid at the back for a second game running.
That provided the platform for victory as Teddy Sheringham popped up with an 81st minute winner to keep the points in east London.
The Hammers would go on to secure a play-off spot for a second season in succession, this time emerging successful as they defeated Preston North End in Cardiff.
