This resounding home win against West Bromwich Albion will forever be remembered for the exploits of a certain Brian Dear.
The Plaistow-born forward, who had not long fought his way back into the team, struck five times in a sensational 20-minute spell either side of the half-time interval.
For the record, Martin Peters was also on the scoresheet, as the Baggies endured an afternoon to forget in east London.
It was, however, just the precursor to a glorious end to the season for Ron Greenwood's men, as Dear and his fellow Hammers teammates went on to seal the European Cup Winners' Cup at Wembley in May.
Dear, meanwhile, ended the season with a prolific record of 14 goals in his 15 appearances in all competitions.

Former West Ham United and Sweden midfielder Freddie Ljungberg is today celebrating his 38th birthday.
Signed by Alan Curbishley on a four-year deal in the summer of 2007, a then 30-year-old Ljungberg ended a trophy-laden nine-year stint at Arsenal to make the switch to east London.
The goalscoring midfielder made his debut on the opening day of the campaign, captaining West Ham in a forgettable 2-0 home defeat to Sven-Goran Eriksson's Manchester City.
In all, Ljungberg would make 28 appearances in his first and, as it turned out, last season at the Boleyn Ground, scoring twice, in a 1-1 home draw with Birmingham City and a 2-1 defeat at Sunderland.
Capped 75 times by his native Sweden, Ljungberg parted company with West Ham in August 2008, before subsequently signing for Major League Soccer outfit Seattle Sounders.
