West Ham United can confirm that Cheikhou Kouyate faces a spell on the sidelines with a groin strain.
The Senegal midfielder suffered the injury during Saturday's 3-1 Barclays Premier League victory over Liverpool at the Boleyn Ground.
The 24-year-old has subsequently been diagnosed with a Grade Two sprain, which has left the player in moderate discomfort and will initially limit his ability to run and jump.
Kouyate has been assessed by the Club's medical department and, for the first week of his recovery, will receive treatment to aid the healing process, including swimming pool exercises
Should this initial treatment prove successful, the summer signing from RSC Anderlecht will progress to begin a rehab programme in the gym next week.
It is hoped he will be available for selection again in around six weeks.
