It has been another memorable week for Academy Director Tony Carr MBE.
Not only did West Ham United score their sixth consecutive Barclays U18 Premier League victory by winning 3-0 at Arsenal, but the Academy also saw no fewer than five graduates represent their countries at various international levels.
To top it all off, Carr was also honoured at the Willow Foundation London Football Legends Awards, which were hosted by the charity at the the Grange Tower Bridge Hotel in central London.
Concentrating on Saturday's superb success at London Colney, Carr said the U18s have developed a superb defensive resilience in recent weeks, winning ten of their last eleven matches, conceding just seven goals in the process.
"We're on a terrific run and Steve Potts has got the team organised and they are playing to their full potential at the moment," Carr told West Ham TV.
"The most pleasing part of the run we're on is that, while the victories are good, defensively we're very sound. We're not conceding goals - just one in six games - which is some achievement and shows the work ethic of the team. That's the platform to win football matches.
"At Arsenal, we didn't play particularly well, but we defended superbly. We didn't put the passes together that we'd have liked or get the cohesion between the midfield and the front players, but we were solid and that gave us the platform to win the game."
Two goals inside the opening ten minutes from Kieran Bywater and Jerry Amoo set West Ham on their way before defender Emanuel Onariase completed the scoring three minutes from full-time.
The U18s will continue their quest to win the South division and reach the end-of-season Play-Offs this Saturday, when they travel to Leicester City. Carr is hoping they produce a better performance than they did at Arsenal, combined with a similar result.
"At Arsenal, we didn't play well enough when we got possession of the ball, which was disappointing even though we won 3-0. I was very pleased with the result but not very pleased with the performance and at our level, performance and consistency are more important and the result.
"We're in with a shout of getting in the Play-Offs at the end of the season, which would be nice. If we finish in the top-two, we will get into the Play-Offs with the North division teams, so that gives us something to play for over the final eight games.
"Hopefully we can keep the run going and push on from here."
