FA Cup third round
4 January 1964

West Ham United embarked on their run to their maiden FA Cup success on this day 50 years ago!

The Hammers had lost their previous home match 8-2 to Blackburn Rovers in Division One, but there were to be no such alarms against their Division Two rivals.

Geoff Hurst fired West Ham in front on ten minutes before Johnny Byrne set up Peter Brabrook for the second midway through the first half.

Ron Greenwood's side booked their place in the fourth round a minute from full-time when John Sissons netted to send the vast majority of the 34,155-strong crowd home happy.
