The final kit for the final season

As every Hammers fan knows, the 2015/16 season will mark West Ham United's final year at the Boleyn Ground, before the move to the Club's magnificent new Stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

To ensure players and fans alike are dressed for the occasion, West Ham are bringing together ideas for a commemorative kit for the final season in order to pay a suitable tribute to the history and traditions established over the past century.

At this momentous time in the Club's history, we are reaching out to fans to gather and record your memories from our years at the Boleyn Ground. We want to hear about your favourite kits from over the years and why they are special.

Vice-Chairman Karren Brady said: "We want to make sure our final season at the Boleyn Ground is a memorable one, which is why it is so important that we involve our supporters in the planning from an early stage.

"We have already seen thousands of fans share their memories and we now are asking for their favourite kits from West Ham United's past.

"I'm sure our fans will once again offer some interesting insight on their favourite kits, whether it be due to the favourite player, a memorable match or even the first time they visited the Boleyn Ground.

"We know the commemorative final season kit is one that every West Ham player will want to wear and we're determined to make sure it pays fitting tribute to our history at the Boleyn Ground."

It could be the iconic style of the kits, the legends who wore them, the unforgettable victories in them, or your own personal memories of learning what it meant to wear the famous Claret and Blue.

Unsurprisingly, memories of West Ham's glory years tend to feature prominently in fans' suggestions, as Club historian John Helliar explains:

"Just like the boots and the balls, the kits have changed so much over the years. We've gone from big baggy shorts in the 50s to things that looked more like swimming trunks in the 80s and from heavy cotton to lightweight polyester. But the one thing that hasn't changed is that the fans' favourite kits are associated with their greatest memories.

"Whatever era our supporters came to the Club or enjoyed their first taste of triumph, those are the shirts they cherish. And it's not just the design of the kit they remember. It's the crest, the collar and, more recently, the sponsor.

"That means you can get very different views: fans from the 60s might favour a simple claret body with blue sleeves; fans from the 80s might prefer an all-claret shirt with horizontal blue pinstripes and the word 'AVCO' in the middle!

"West Ham's current home kit - a throwback to the designs of the 80s and 90s - was already one of the best-selling and most popular in years, even before the Club made its best-ever start to a Premier League season."

So send us pictures of your favourite kits, your first kit, maybe you own a shirt signed by a Club legend that holds of pride of place in your home. Just remember to tell us what your memories are of that particular kit and why it is still so special to you. You can do so via email to [email protected], on Facebook or on Twitter using #FarewellBoleynKit

Your contributions will go towards forming a final record of all the home shirts worn over the past century, which we will use to tell the Club's history on our website and elsewhere in the years to come.
