Wigan Athletic 0-3 West Ham United
Premier League
28 April 2007

West Ham United kept their hopes of a great escape alive by beating Wigan Athletic at the JJB Stadium in April 2007.

The Hammers were in a perilous position in the Premier League relegation zone as the season drew to a close, but they had been lifted by a 1-0 success against Everton the week before.

Luis Boa Morte was the catalyst for victory against the Latics, picking a great moment to score his first goal for the Club after 30 minutes as he lobbed the ball over the on-rushing John Filan.

With just over half an hour left in the match Yossi Benayoun eased the Hammers' nerves with a cool strike into the bottom corner.

As Wigan pushed forward the visitors capitalised to make the game safe. Substitute Marlon Harewood rounded off a fine team move with a simple finish to seal a hugely important win for Alan Curbishley's team.

The Hammers went onto win their final two matches of the season against Bolton Wanderers and Manchester United to secure their place in the top-flight.
