Rush for last Pompey tickets

The first Saturday 3pm home match of the season is fast approaching and the club is planning to have pay on the day turnstiles in operation.

As of Friday morning, the club had reported brisk trade for the remaining seats, with prices starting at £32 for adults and all children able to take part in the Kids for a Quid promotion.

Anyone thinking of going along is advised to buy their seat in advance because of the last-minute rush on Friday and the matchday itself.

Of the Kids for a Quid promotion, Sam Allardyce said: "I love that support from the owners, when you can look at the economic climate and come and enjoy a game of football for a pound with your son or daughter. I think a bus or the train fare costs more these days so this increasing the West Ham support and the future support.

"It is a fantastic gesture. I hope we can repay everybody that comes along on Saturday by giving them a victory."

The npower Championship match promises to be a high-profile encounter with both clubs looking to get back to the Premier League. The Ticket Office is expecting high demand this week with everyone on a high after the 4-1 victory at Nottingham Forest and the club's impressive deadline deals.

It will be the first opportunity for Sam Allardyce's final squad post-transfer window to be in action. Big Sam could give several players their debuts including the likes of Sam Baldock, Guy Demel, Papa Bouba Diop and David Bentley.

This Kids for a Quid match is the latest 'supporting our supporters' gesture at West Ham United with prices slashed in the cup competitions and other great offers passed on to season ticket holders and members.

* Fans picking up pre-booked seats for Millwall are urged to get to the Ticket Office before 1.30pm as only match sales will be in operation in the final 90 minutes before kick-off.
