Gould on Big Sam

West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce is more than familiar with today's opponents Coventry City - having played for the Midlands club under the guidance of former Hammers favourite Bobby Gould.

Big Sam played 28 league matches for Coventry in the 1983/84 season and Gould told West Ham TV that the defender was always going to become a successful manager in the English game because of his professionalism and will to win.

"He was a great pro and he was a battler," recalled Gould. "You wouldn't want to play him. He has done really well. You have to develop a football club, it has to create a culture and he is doing that."
