Thanks for fans

West Ham United Joint-Chairman David Gold has thanked the many well-wishers who have sent messages of support to him in hospital.

The club has been inundated with emails and phone calls from concerned Hammers fans, as well as receiving kind words from supporters of other clubs, since confirming he was being treated for cholangitis - an infection of the common bile duct - and septicaemia.

As such, he was unable to attend Sunday's 3-1 home win against Liverpool. However, he watched the game on television from his hospital bed and has since been in touch with club staff to congratulate the team on the victory.

His daughter Jacqueline said: "My father is still feeling very poorly but his consultant is very pleased with the way he is responding to treatment and we are hoping he will be well enough for surgery next week.

"I know Dad would like to thank everyone for their support and best wishes and there is no doubt that Sunday's victory has helped lift his spirits."
