Turgott on target

Blair Turgott scored a sensational goal as England were held to a 2-2 draw by Canada at the FIFA U17 World Cup.

The West Ham United midfielder let fly with a thunderous shot from 25 yards to put England 2-1 up with 13 minutes of their Group C fixture remaining in the Mexican city of Pachuca.

Unfortunately, the Young Lions were unable to maintain the advantage given to them by Turgott, conceding a dramatic late equaliser to Canada goalkeeper Quillian Roberts with just three minutes to go.

The goal, which saw Roberts' free-kick from inside his own half loop over England stopper Jordan Pickford was the first ever scored by a goalkeeper in the history of the tournament.

Earlier, England had taken a 46th-minute lead through Adam Morgan's header before Sada Jalali equalised for the first time four minutes later.

Turgott, who had been introduced as a substitute with 20 minutes remaining, looked to have won the game for England and secured their passage to the knockout stages, only for Roberts to net his amazing late leveller.

Uruguay beat Rwanda 1-0 in Wednesday's other Group C match, leaving the South Americans top of the table with six points from two matches. England have four points, Canada have one and Rwanda are on zero.

England are still heavy favourites to reach the last-16, but know a point from their final group-stage fixture against Uruguay in Torreon on Saturday will definitely take them through. Defeat, coupled with a large Canadian victory over Rwanda, could see them knocked out.
