United tickets sold out

The Carling Cup quarter-final tie with Manchester United sold out on Friday morning - ensuring a packed stadium for the Boleyn night under the lights.

The Ticket Office has recorded its busiest few days of trading for a Boleyn Ground fixture in more than a decade as fans flocked to make sure they do not miss out.

More than 5,500 seats were sold on Wednesday alone for the Tuesday 30 November match. The last time the Ticket Office experienced such a busy day of sales for a home game came during the UEFA Intertoto Cup/UEFA Cup run in 1999.

Demand was high because the club had slashed prices for the third home game in a row in this year's competition after the well-attended wins against Oxford United and Stoke City. Supporters jumped at the chance to see the holders - possibly boasting the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney - arrive in east London for just £20 for adults and £10 for kids.

The latest Kids for a Quid match against Wigan Athletic on Saturday week is also proving hugely popular with fans, with the Board once again making a superb gesture to young supporters. This fixture last season proved decisive to the campaign as it was when Scott Parker struck a superb late winner to all but confirm the Hammers' survival.

Also, anyone who buys a Wigan ticket will be given access to a guaranteed priority period for any potential Carling Cup semi-final tie should the Hammers progress - after the exclusive selling dates for season ticket holders and members.

To be eligible, fans must book in advance of 27 November and retain their ticket stub - while anyone buying multiple tickets should supply the names for each seat. This priority chance for the cup will not apply to anyone paying on the day for Wigan.

With the Manchester United match approaching, excitement is mounting among the squad as well as the fans for a mouth-watering contest that will take the winners to just one tie from Wembley and February's showpiece final.

"We know that there is a semi-final place up for grabs and it is great that we have got another home match to look forward to," said Scott Parker. "That is all you can hope for at this stage as any quarter-final is going to be tough.

"The league is the main priority for us but having this good cup run is a big bonus and can only help."
