Julian up for Saturday

Julian Dicks will be watching on with interest when England begin their FIFA World Cup campaign against the United States tonight.

The nation will grind to a halt when the Group C match is played in Rustenberg at 7.30pm and Dicks sees no reason why the Three Lions cannot go all the way.

"I want England to win it obviously but it is going to be tough," he said. "If they can keep the main players like Wayne Rooney fit they will have a good chance.

"You can't be a one-man team. They have got good players throughout the team so you can't say we are a one-man team but when he plays we seem to click."

Dicks is confident Robert Green will get the nod in goal and believed the West Ham shot-stopper would do the club proud. "Hopefully Rob Green will be playing and if he is in goal I wouldn't worry about it."

Key to everything for Dicks, who is now a manager himself at Grays Athletic, is the presence of Fabio Capello on the sidelines. "He seems to be the man. The players like him and fear him as well which is always good when they have big egos. I would like to say he will take us all the way."

If England are not to succeed though, Dicks thinks that Spain are the ones to watch. "The Spanish are the favourites. They were a class side at the European Championship. But, if you get amongst them and scrap for every ball then I think we would have a great chance."
