Oliver Lee felt that West Ham United reserves were the better team against Portsmouth and with a bit more luck could have come away with the result that would have ended their season on a high.
Lee was one of nine teenagers to start for Alex Dyer's side as they went down 1-0 after their hosts scored a fortuitous last-minute winner. It was tough on West Ham, who had enjoyed the better chances in the match. However, they were made to pay for not taking them by Portsmouth's deflected last-minute winner which left goalkeeper Peter Kurucz with no chance.
"I think we played well but we had enough chances to win the game twice over," said Lee. "We should have taken them when they came but they had one of their first team players playing and he's popped up with a last-minute goal. We were all a bit gutted about that."
Despite the obvious disappointment at the defeat, Lee could still reflect on what has been a brilliant year for his own personal development.
"The season has gone well. It would have been nice to end it with a win for the reserves but it's been a good season for me personally. I think I've improved 100 per cent so I'm looking forward to next year," he said.
