West Ham United have allowed midfielder Nigel Quashie to join Birmingham City on an initial month's loan.
The 30-year-old has played three times for the midlands club's reserve team during a trial spell and was on the bench for their Championship fixture against Crystal Palace on Tuesday night. Quashie has not played for West Ham United since the 4-3 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur in March 2007, having been troubled by persistent foot problems. Speaking to the club's official website, Birmingham manager Alex McLeish said: "He's got the type of steel we require for the ambitions that we have ... he's got a winning attitude."
