West Ham United Ladies' game against Millwall Lionesses was called off after the death of club president John Greenacre on Saturday morning.
John was heavily involved in setting up the original West Ham United Ladies in 1976 and, after moving to Romford Ladies, he came back to help reform the club in 1992. 16 years on, the club are now firmly established in the FA Tesco Women's Premier League south with a successful youth academy bringing through the next generation of players.
The driving force behind much of the club's development, John filled many roles over the years including manager, chairman, treasurer, secretary and chief fund-raiser. He retired last year before taking on his final job as honorary club president.
John had fought a long and dignified battle with cancer and, despite his illness, was still a regular at both first team and junior games and will be sorely missed by everyone associated with the club.
