More than 60 youngsters from Newham were able to spend half-term receiving structured football and multisports coaching in association with West Ham United Community Trust.
Kickz ambassadors Timmy Lukwago, Jackie Alecho, and Santos Parreira, together with Newham Sports Development coaches, delivered the week-long course to the children at the Community Scheme training ground in Beckton. The young ambassadors took responsibility for leading and delivering sessions under the watchful eyes of full-time officers Danny Godfrey and Zac Wooster.
The standard of the sessions was very high particularly in terms of enthusiasm, tempo, and well-organised competition. The participants enjoyed the benefits of a structured programme which improved their technical ability, fitness, and tactical awareness. Kickz - backed by the Football Foundation and the Met Police Authority - runs regular sessions throughout the year allowing the club to reach out into the community.
Mick King, newly appointed CEO of the West Ham United Community Trust, said "A year ago when Kickz started Timmy and Jade were targeted as young players to participate on the scheme. It is a measure of the project's commitment and their progress that they can now be seen as responsible young leaders within their own communities. We have very high hopes that these young people will be the cornerstones of our scheme for many years to come."
