Big Match Preview: Charlton v Hammers

Team news:

Matty Upson could be back in contention for a return to action if he comes through a late fitness test following his ankle injury. James Collins and Lee Bowyer are also hoping to be fit in time to make the squad. Carlton Cole is also fit again and will be challenging for a place. Nigel Reo-Coker and Jonathan Spector are both suspended for the clash, with Reo-Coker serving the first of his two-match ban.

Charlton may have Darren Bent fit for selection after recovering from his knee injury and Luke Young may also make a return for the first time since mid-December. Talal El-Karkouri could make the starting line-up following his one-match ban but Andy Reid is still out injured.

Background:

Both managers, Alan Curbishley and Alan Pardew, will be facing their former clubs with Curbs returning to the Valley for the first time since he called time on his 15-year tenure.

Both clubs are level on 20 points, with a win potentially putting either side within three points of moving out of the relegation zone, if Wigan lose their game against Newcastle on Sunday.

Stats:

It has been nearly 50 years since the Addicks last lost a home league match to the Hammers but Curbs will be hoping we can end that run and clinch our first away win of the season.

Charlton have only kept one clean sheet in 11 matches and have won five Premiership matches this season.

Hammers are without a win in six games and are still the only club not to have scored a penalty in the Premiership this season.

The referee is Rob Styles, from Hampshire, who has officiated in two Hammers matches this season: our home defeat to Newcastle and our home win against Arsenal.
