Steve Brown's reserves celebrated their third win in a
row with a 3-1 victory away at Portsmouth last night.
Hammers took the lead through midway through the first half with Zavon Hines capping off a well-crafted move from the midfield. Portsmouth equalised on the stroke of half-time with a superb strike from 25 yards that thundered into the top corner.
In the second half Hammers didn't start too brightly and Portsmouth could have taken the lead. This was the wake-up call Steve's young charges needed and they quickly regrouped to score another well-worked goal orchestrated by Junior Stanislas, who was turning in an exceptional second-half performance.
He found Freddie Sears with a very clever through-ball, which Freddie tucked away to make the scoreline 2-1. Four minutes later the game was effectively over when Junior was pushed over in the box and Lee Hales converted the penalty.
The youngsters then went onto to dominate and the winning margin could have been even bigger.
Steve said: "It was two young sides who looked very tired but despite this we put together a decent second-half performance. Once our youngsters came out in the second-half they worked tirelessly to get the result which in the end they thoroughly deserved.
"We've had better performances this season and lost. When we combine the two; a great performance and a great result - that will be the icing on the cake."
