Mixed emotions for deadly Deano

Upton Park is fast becoming home sweet home for Dean Ashton, following another strike in front of the Boleyn Ground faithful yesterday.

The 22-year-old striker claimed his third goal in three Premiership starts for the Club with a stunning left-foot effort in the 2-2 draw against Everton - and all have arrived at home.

However, while his previous two strikes helped earn victories against Sunderland and Birmingham City last month, this time Hammers had to settle for a point, and Dean admitted afterwards that he would have gladly traded a place on the scoresheet for a win against the Toffees.

"I was pleased with the goal," he said. "I thought about cutting back on to my right foot but the defender got across quickly and so I had to take it with my left.

"It's always fantastic to score, especially in the Premiership. Having scored three in three, I couldn't really have asked for a better start, but I would swap my goal today for three points.

"We're all a bit disappointed that, after scoring two early goals, we didn't go on to win the game. A draw is not a bad result, but we feel we can do better than that.

"I thought we came out of the blocks really well and played some good stuff in the first half," he added. "We deserved our lead and it was just a case of trying to kill them off with a third goal.

"I don't know if it was anything to do with the break we've had, but we looked a little lacklustre in the second half, and Everton took advantage of that. They played really well, looked very focused, and deserved the draw, if not the win."
