Coming soon...Alvin's World Cup diary

The World Cup finals in Germany kick off this week and we have secured a former Hammers and England star to give us an exclusive lowdown on all that is going on at the greatest football tournament of them all this summer.

Alvin Martin made almost 600 league and cup appearances in a distinguished 18-year playing career at Upton Park, during which time he also won 17 full caps for England and earned a reputation as one of the finest central defenders in the country.

It is 20 years this month since Alvin travelled to the World Cup finals in Mexico and made his one and only appearance in a 3-2 second round victory over Paraguay - ironically England's opponents in their first group game in Germany this coming Saturday - before Bobby Robson's men bowed out in an unforgettable quarter-final clash against Diego Maradona's Argentina.

Now one of the country's most highly-respected media pundits, Alvin will be travelling all over Germany during the next four weeks in his role as a co-commentator and summariser with the World Cup's official radio station, Talksport.

And every week throughout the tournament, he will be giving us an exclusive behind-the-scenes analysis, including his views on England's progress, thoughts on their opponents and rivals, plus an off-beat look at the day-to-day experiences of covering a World Cup finals tournament from behind the microphone…

Don't miss the first instalment of Alvin's World Cup diary, this coming Friday, June 9, exclusively on whufc.com…
