Bright Start for Katan

Yaniv Katan enjoyed his first taste of English football at Norwich on Saturday and promised Hammers fans that they will see the best of him once he is fully settled in.

Despite having trained just twice with his new team-mates last week, the Israeli striker came on as an 80th minute substitute for matchwinner Bobby Zamora in the FA Cup third round win at Carrow Road, and looked impressive as Hammers saw out a comfortable 2-1 victory.

As he emerged from the visitors' dressing-room after the game, Yaniv looked pleased with his brief contribution and revealed his eagerness to enjoy more action.

"I enjoyed my first moment for West Ham and I was very happy that we won the game," he said. "I didn't play longer as I have only had two practices with the team, but it was a good experience.[page]

"The FA Cup is a big competition and I was very happy to play my first game for West Ham United. Now I want to practice more with the team this week and I hope to offer much more to the team in the future.

"I know the team and the management now, they are all very nice people and I am looking forward to working with them every day."

Manager Alan Pardew was happy with his new signing and said: "I didn't start Yaniv because I felt that the furore of the tie might prove to be a bit of a shock to him, but he showed some good flashes of his ability during his 10-minute run-out.

"I haven't got him down to play a big role this season, but you never know. To be honest, I just want him to settle in for now."
