Katan enjoying every minute

He may not have made the same impact on the Premiership as his fellow countryman Yossi Benayoun yet, but Israeli striker Yaniv Katan insists he is enjoying every minute of life at Upton Park.

The former Maccabi Haifa star came on for his fifth substitute appearance in the 3-0 win against Birmingham City on Monday night and has yet to make his first start for the Hammers, but boss Alan Pardew has been impressed with his attitude and quality on the training pitch, and the player himself has enjoyed his introduction to English football.

"It is a wonderful experience to play for the team, especially at Upton Park, because the crowd are fantastic," he says. "They cheer for the team for 90 minutes, and they have cheered me even though I have not played many games yet.

"At the moment, I am not starting in the team, but it is not a problem for me. I have only just arrived in England and I am still getting used to the style of the football here. It is good that the manager is pleased with my contribution, and I hope to keep playing well on the training pitch.

"There are many good strikers here, but the manager also knows that I can play not only as a striker. I like to play on the left, on the right, in any attacking position, so maybe there is a chance for me in another position soon."

Off the pitch, Yaniv has also settled in well and, thanks to the presence of his close friend and international team-mate Yossi, is coping well with the sudden change of environment and culture.

"My life here is very good," he says. "The people are very nice and I like the Club very much. I am enjoying everything about West Ham United.

"In two weeks I move into a house near Yossi, and my wife is here with me, so we are looking forward to continuing our life in England.

"This move has been a good experience for me, and it is very enjoyable being here with Yossi. Back home in Israel, every West Ham match is shown live on television, and they are all hoping to see us play together.

"It was good to do that against Birmingham City on Monday night, and I hope we can play together more often this season."
