Teddy Sheringham admits that he was surprised by our
memorable victory against Manchester United on Sunday, and is now
urging his team-mates to produce the same level of performance
against our rivals in the lower reaches of the
Premiership.
The 40-year-old striker played a key role in the 1-0 win over his former club - stepping off the bench to help create the winning goal for Nigel Reo-Coker with 15 minutes remaining, and was typically honest with his views afterwards.
"To be honest, I don't think we saw that coming," said Teddy. "It's a fantastic feeling whenever you win, but to beat a team like Manchester United - the Premiership leaders who were unbeaten for so many games beforehand - is a tremendous achievement.
"It just shows what happens when we stick together, get a couple of breaks, and dig in to get the result. To beat a top team like United, you need to have everyone in the team performing at eight, nine or even 10 out of 10. No one gave less than an eight on Sunday and it was a fantastic team performance.
"It's amazing, though, that we've beaten Man United and Arsenal this season and yet are still in the bottom three," added Teddy. "We now need to raise our game in the same way against the teams who are near us in the table, and make sure we pick up points from the games over Christmas."
