Route information for FA Cup semi-final

We have received the following route information from Aston Villa, for the benefit of supporters travelling to our FA Cup semi-final against Middlesbrough at Villa Park on Sunday...

Please ignore any directions from route planners or satellite navigation systems, and follow the routes described below which are agreed with the Police. All routes will be clearly signposted.

West Ham Cars
Take the M1 then the M6, exit at junction seven and follow the signs for Birmingham A34. Having passed Alexandra Stadium on the left, all vehicles should stay in the nearside lane. Leave the main carriageway just prior to the flyover at Perry Barr Greyhound stadium (Do not go over the flyover). At the traffic lights, cars should turn left and follow the AA signs. The first car park is at the greyhound stadium which is on the left after the traffic lights, the next car park is at the University of Central England which is in Wellhead Lane, this is the first turn on the right after the traffic lights opposite the greyhound stadium.

West Ham Coaches
Coaches should turn right and carry on to the next island turning left into Aston lane. Then follow signposts towards the stadium and take the second exit, (straight on) at the traffic island by the Aston Hotel and continue into Witton Lane. Coach parking is on the club coach park which is opposite the main gates to the stadium approximately 200 yards into Witton Lane. Cars are not allowed on this car park, but may use the Aston Events Centre in Aston Hall Road; continue along Witton Lane then turn left at the traffic lights before the elevated motorway into Aston Hall Road, the car park is on the left after 200 yards. Police motorcyclists will escort coaches from the M6 exit. Various car parks may be signposted along this route which will be suitable for cars, but coaches must park on the Witton Lane coach park.

The Aston Events Centre car park is described on some maps as the Villa Leisure Centre, and is also known locally as the ASDA car park and the Serpentine car park. These terms are interchangeable and all refer to the same car park in Aston Hall Road.

Please note that Witton Lane and Trinity Road are closed to traffic in the vicinity of the stadium from 75 minutes prior to kick-off, and for approximately 30 minutes after kick-off.

On-street parking in the neighbourhood of the stadium is prohibited on match days, and Birmingham City Council rigidly enforce the prohibition which is clearly signposted. Illegally parked vehicles will be the subject of fines, and many are towed away to a council pound. You are strongly advised only to use official car parks.
