TONY Gale believes Hammers must stick to their footballing
principles as they look to earn what would be a famous win in
Saturday's London derby clash against Arsenal at Upton Park.
Former Hammers star Galey has been impressed with the way
Pards' men have started the season and not least by the open,
flowing football West Ham have been producing.
He admits that it's refreshing to see a promoted team attack
the Premier League with such verve.
"The key for West Ham against Arsenal this weekend is not to
change anything and just keep playing the way they have been,"
he explained. "Hammers have been playing some fantastic
football so far this season and I don't see any reason to
change.
"The team are playing with a lot of confidence and it's
refreshing to see a side that has just come into the Premier League
play the kind of open football that West Ham are adopting.
"They are winning plenty of friends because of it and
hopefully they can produce another strong display against Arsenal.
"I saw the game against Fulham on Saturday and it was a great
match between two teams trying to play the game the right way.
"It was open, end to end and either team could have gone away
with the win.
"For me, the key to the way West Ham United are playing at the
moment is the spine of the team. Hayden Mullins and Nigel Reo-Coker
have been brilliant, bringing real energy to the midfield.
"At the back there are two fantastic athletes in Anton
Ferdinand and Danny Gabbidon, who have both been really impressive
and then there is Marlon Harewood, who looks to have found his
scoring touch.
"But really every player deserves complimenting, because
it's been a real team effort from West Ham so far and long may
that continue this season."
Galey, along with every Hammers fan, is looking forward to the
visit of Arsenal this weekend. Hammers have an encouraging record
against the Gunners at Upton Park. Last time out in August 2002
they drew 2-2 with goals from Joe Cole and Fredi Kanoute, but
should have won the game.
"It's the game of the season at Upton Park as far as
I'm concerned," said Tony. "Arsenal are a super side
and it's always going to be difficult against them.
"But over the years we've given them a run for their money
at Upton Park and I don't see why we can't do it again on
Saturday.
"Arsene Wenger has always been very complimentary about the
way West Ham play, and this promises to be a really good clash
between two teams who like to play good football.
"The atmosphere at the Boleyn Ground will no doubt play a
part. The Hammers fans have taken to the Premiership just as well
as the manager and fans have. They seem to be enjoying themselves
at every game, home and away, and I'm sure they'll be up
for it on Saturday.
"The Club is really sticking together as one at the moment and
that's just what West Ham United need. Everyone is enjoying
being back in the Premiership, and Saturday's game is what
being in the top-flight is all about."
