ANTON Ferdinand started for the England Under-21s as Peter
Taylor's side turned in a good performance only to suffer a
heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Austria at Elland Road.
Anton played for 71 minutes of the match before being replaced by
Ryan Taylor.
Nigel Reo-Coker was also in the squad but was ruled out on the day
of the match after failing to shake off a foot injury.
Carlton Cole gave England the lead after 18 minutes, but two
second-half goals from Marc Janko earned Austria the win.
England have already secured their place in the qualifying
play-offs for the UEFA Under-21 European Championships.
