Ladies In Royal Triumph

A VICKI Lewis blockbuster in the closing minutes of the game gave the Hammers Ladies all three points in a 1-0 win over Reading Royals.

The first-half was a pretty dour affair and possibly the fact that the girls had not had a game for two weeks showed as at times they looked well below their normal standards.

In the second-half manager Kay Cossington introduced all three substitutes to the game and this was a turning point as the game slowly began to gather momentum.

Sam Pittuck began throwing in some dangerous crosses from the right which caused problems for the Reading defence while at the other end keeper Claire Lacey pulled off some very good saves. The strike from Vicky Lewis on the 86th minute was probably the Hammers goal of the season thus far.

WEST HAM UNITED: Claire Lacey, Stacey Crump, Julia Stetford, Kate Turney, Kerry Stimpson, Lydnsey Morgan, Aoifie Aherne, Nicola Dunsdon, Natalie Grafton, Vicki Lewis, Hayley Barton. Subs: Sam Pittuck, Kate Fanning, Carly Roache.

Due to Welsh Cup commitments next week's away trip to Cardiff City has been postponed leaving the Hammers another two weeks break before they have a League fixture.  This being on Sunday 27th November when Southampton are the visitors to Aveley.

West Ham United Ladies Reserves 2 Comets 0

The Reserves found themselves without a regular League fixture and manager Andi Woodley arranged a friendly and used this to give an opportunity to some new players.  It was Hammers stalwart Sam Thompson who grabbed a brace in the game but Andi was particularly impressed with two girls, Kate Fitter and Kerry Jacks who had stepped up from the club's very successful nder-side.  Also impressing was former first-team player Donna Lyme who was appearing after a two year lay off from the game.

Next Sunday the Hammers Reserves entertain Leyton Orient in the London County Cup at Flanders Fields (2.00pm kick off)
