AFTER helping seal the Reserve team's first win in nine
games, goalscorers Moses Ashikodi, Tony Stokes and Kyel Reid
reflect on a job well done in the 4-2 victory over Coventry City at
Highfield Road.
Moses Ashikodi
"The win has definitely been a long time coming, but it was a
great performance and I think we deserved it. I was really pleased
to score, especially as it was the first goal of the night and set
us on our way to the win. We had a few of the senior lads playing
for us, but the team worked really hard as a whole and all the boys
gave 100 per cent. David Cowley came on for Luke Chadwick and did
really well, scoring our fourth goal, and that shows players can
come in and settle quickly into this team as long as they give
their all and contribute. Also, Chrissie Cohen went back to
centre-half against Coventry and proved that he's a really
versatile player, who can play anywhere on the park.
"A few times in the Reserves this season we have let leads
slip in the second-half and I can understand people being a bit
worried when Coventry got it back to 3-2. But the way we played I
think we thoroughly deserved the win and scoring four goals will
give the lads a confidence boost."
Tony Stokes
"It was a really hard-working performance and I was so tired
after the game. I was back in midfield, where I've been playing
a lot recently and it's going pretty well. When I play up front
I was never the sort of player to get stuck in with big tackles,
but midfield is certainly helping to improve that side of my game.
"After I won the penalty I though that I should be the one to
take it. I wanted it straight away and was determined to put it
away. Thankfully, I did and it set us up nicely to go on, score
four goals and play very well.
"It was great to play alongside Steve Lomas during the
first-half. He's a great help, always encouraging and talking
you through the game. I think I learned a lot playing alongside
him."
Kyel Reid
"I think that was my best game for the Reserves so far and
certainly a great team performance from the boys. Kevin Keen told
us at half-time how well we were doing and that we had to keep
going and keep a steady head. I think when you consider how many
times we have given away leads this season we were extra careful
this time round. But David Cowley's goal secured it for us. It
was a cracker, his first for the Reserves, and he deserved it
because he's worked really hard this season.
"Hopefully after this result we can push on and have a really
strong end to the season. It would also be nice to see some of the
lads that have played regularly for the Reserves this season
breaking through into the first-team. We'll just have to work
hard and try and impress the manager as much as we can."
