The Football Association has announced that The FA Women's
Cup Final, in partnership with Nationwide, will take place at West
Ham United's Upton Park on Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May 2005,
kick-off 1.00pm.
The prestigious final will see runners-up for the last two seasons
- Charlton Athletic - take on Everton and will be broadcast live on
BBC One.
The Toffees beat Arsenal 3-0 in their Semi-Final, while the Addicks
overcame Bristol Rovers 1-0 in their match. Both teams,
currently occupying the top two spots in The FA Nationwide Premier
League, will be looking to take home the trophy as part of the
double - winning both The FA Women's Cup and The FA Nationwide
Women's Premier League.
Charlton will be hoping it will be 'third time lucky' for
them in the Final, having lost 3-0 to Fulham in 2003 and by the
same scoreline last season to Arsenal, when Julie Fleeting scored a
hat-trick. Everton meanwhile will be hoping to take the trophy that
they last lifted in 1989 under their former name, Leasowe Pacific.
Ray Kiddell, Chairman of The FA Women's Football Committee
said: "We are delighted that The FA Cup Final will be held at
West Ham United's Upton Park. The two teams are closely
matched and hungry for victory so it should be an exciting
encounter.
"I hope that the players, officials and supporters of both
clubs, as well as West Ham United fans and girls teams from around
the country will get behind the teams at a showcase Final, and
enjoy a fantastic match."
Terence Brown, Chairman of West Ham United, added: "The FA
Women's Cup has a proud tradition and we are delighted to have
been asked to host this match at Upton Park by The Football
Association. We hope that as many of our supporters as
possible turn out to support this fixture and see the strongest
teams in the women's game in action."
