Osasuna Visit In Out Performance Display Cup!


CLUB Athletico Osasuna will be the visitors to Upton Park on Saturday August 6th for Hammers final pre-season game before the start of the Premiership season.

The Spanish club have competed regularly in Spain's top-flight, qualifying for the UEFA Cup in 2003/04 under the leadership of Mexican coach Javier Aguirre.

Club Athletico Osasuna are based in the in the town of Pamplona, famous for the legendary bull run that takes place through it's crowded streets every year.

Osasuna were formed through the merger of two Pamplona teams, Sportiva and New Club, in November 1920. The team began life playing against a local military section of the Spanish army and the name Osasuna means health, energy or strength in Basque.

Osasuna have been a solid La Liga outfit for the past decade, but finished finished 15th in Spain's elite league last season, avoiding relegation by two places.



They will bring some familiar names back to these shores when they visit Upton Park. Like the Hammers, Osasuna count a former Manchester United goalkeeper in their ranks in the form of Ricardo. Australian international and ex-Coventry City striker John Aloisi is also part of the Osasuna squad, as is former Aston Villa hit-man Savo Milosevic, who joined from Italian side Parma last season.

Hammers take on Osasuna on Saturday 6th August, kick-off 3.00pm, your only chance to watch Alan Pardew's new squad in action at Upton Park before the start of the Premier League season.

Pards said: "This will be a high-profile fixture for the Club and is our final chance to prepare the squad ahead of West Ham United's first game back in the Premiership against Blackburn.

"It's also our only pre-season game at Upton Park and for that reason it will be important to introduce the new players to the ground and the atmosphere.

"Hopefully, it will be a great occasion and a good way to round-off what I expect to be a very thorough pre-season programme."
