Two Hammers In England Under-17 Win

JAMES Tomkins and Lee Hales both featured for England Under-17's as they beat Turkey 1-0 at Meadow Lane.

Ironically as the Hammers youth squad prepare for the forthcoming FA Youth Cup tie with Manchester City it was City's Daniel Sturridge who was on target for the young Lions.

With the game seemingly destined for stalemate, Sturridge drilled home Jamie Chandler's cross from the edge of the box in the dying moments to secure a narrow win.

England manager John Peacock said: "We can play better, but you would say that we were the better side. We created more chances than they did, but we need to be more clinical with our passing.

"It was obvious that it was going to be a tight game and it was a mistake that decided it. But it could have been 1-0 either way."

Tomkins played the full 90 minutes while Hales made way for Joseph Magunda of Leicester City on 52 minutes.
