19 Named

Alan Pardew names a 19 man squad for the visit of Gillingham but there are serious doubts over Teddy Sheringham and Matthew Etherington.

Teddy has an ongoing thigh problem and did not train on Friday, while Matthew faces a late fitness test on a twisted ankle.

"Teddy is very doubtful as is Mattie," says Alan Pardew.

"Nigel Reo-Coker has a touch of the cold but he is okay, Calum Davenport is not going to be available but he will probably train on Monday, and Chris Powell has a niggly injury.

"But we have a strong squad."

Christian Dailly remains on the long-term injured list while fellow centre half Andy Melville is still unavailable.

Meanwhile, Anton Ferdinand has fully shaken off his injury problems after being rested on Tuesday after playing against QPR last weekend, and he says:

"It can be a bit irritating watching but you do see things on the sidelines that you don't see when you are on the ball.

"It is great to be back, though, even if I was only out for a month.

"I am a more confident player this season."

Anton says he has not yet thought about the possibility of facing former colleagues when West Ham play Chelsea next week.

"Perhaps there will be a bit of banter next week but when you are in the tunnel about to go out and do a job you can't think about friendships.

"I am just focused on the Gillingham game; it is an important one and we will have to keep the ball moving quickly."
