Greg: Onwards And Upwards

Greg Pearson is hoping to push on and progress this season in what he admits is a vital campaign for him.

Greg, who was included in the squad that went to QPR on Saturday, says:

"I haven't played in the first team yet; my form is getting back and I am getting sharper.

"That is the main thing, just to get back to beyond where I was last year.

"You have to progress and that is what I am here for - hopefully I can get to the point where I am on the bench or involved with the first team."

Greg spent a month at Lincoln earlier in the season and he adds:

"It was different - an experience - and I got a league goal which was great for me.

"Because of the amount of games I played there I wasn't as sharp as I should have been when I came back, so that held me back.

"But with the reserve games I am hopefully starting to get that sharpness back and hopefully I can kick on from there.

"You can't beat playing league games; it is a great buzz when you get on the pitch and the competitiveness is different to what you get at reserve level.

"Part of the problem of not playing as many games as I would have liked was that they weren't doing the best in the table, but I am looking forward now."

Greg is trying to learn from fellow forward Teddy Sheringham but he admits:

"Trying to do the things he does is not something I would attempt! He is a tremendous player who has done everything in the game.

"His first touch is something else; everything that comes up to him sticks and he generally doesn't lose the ball.

"He is a great role model as well, although he is a slightly different player to me in that he will drop short and maybe do a bit on the ball - whereas I will maybe get in behind.

"You can always learn from players like that with his first touch and the way he comes to receive the ball and what he does with it once he gets it, more importantly; all the lads can pick things up off him."

As for his own future, he says:

"We will wait and see what opportunities I get in the first team here which is obviously where everyone wants to play; I am hoping I can get maybe a couple of games here and then we will see where it takes me.

"It is a massive season and one which determines whether I will be here longer or not; it is a great springboard and if I can have a good season then there is nothing to say what you can't achieve here because it is a big club and it has a good manager with good players."
