Injury Latest

Nigel Reo-Coker misses the first of England U21s' two games - against Wales - with injury but he should be okay to play next week.

Explains John Green:

"He has joined up but on the proviso that he would only play the second game - Peter Taylor is happy for him to go along for the first game, but only as a spectator to be part of the squad."

Nigel only joined up with the England party on Wednesday and John adds:

"The scan that we had done prior to him leaving indicated that he needed to rest; there was some inflammation over the medial ligament but no tear itself.

"I have no doubt the England people will be looking after him and we will get him back in a fit state after the Azerbaijan game."

Anton Ferdinand misses out on both U21 games as well, and John adds:

"A decision by Peter Taylor not to take him to the U21s was, I think, appropriate as he has had a couple of little problems recently.

"The plan is in this fortnight he can get his training up to scratch and consolidate his fitness again to get back into the team."

Meanwhile, Steve Lomas and Don Hutchison are both fine after playing 90 minutes each in the reserves against Southampton midweek.

"There are no problems with either of them; they both trained on Thursday and showed no ill effects from their performances the other night," says John.
