Connors: They All Count

David Connolly says the supporters who didn't manage to get to Cardiff are as vital as the ones who did.

David fully appreciates the time, expense, and effort the supporters expend on following the club - and knows that some supporters have missed out on the big day.

"The fans were really good against Ipswich at home," he says, "and the ones that couldn't get a ticket are just as important; it was a great atmosphere and I am just glad we gave them the right result.

"This is another hard game coming up, and we are doing it the hard way, but I think this is how we prefer them.

"We showed cool heads against Ipswich - we kept it sensible and rightly so.

"We played very well in a high pressure game and we kept a clean sheet - if you do that everyone has a chance and it gives you the base to win.

"We should have scored more, I certainly should have, though it doesn't matter now, thank God.

"But I have got to be better than that and take them; I was a bit unlucky with the dink over the goalkeeper but thankfully Christian saved my blushes and I think we really deserved the win.

"Games like this are pressure situations and I think we rose to it against Ipswich last week, which is an encouraging sign after they played better in the first game.

"It is difficult over a two-legged game because the second leg is do-or-die, as is tomorrow's.

"It is an all-London match which I am sure will be a good one for the fans.

"It will be a cracking atmosphere but there is no point getting there unless we win."

And is the squad good enough to survive the Premiership?

"Let's worry about that when it happens," he says.

Club chaplain Elwyn Cockett will be leading prayers on the day of the final at 9am at Emmanuel Church, Laindon Road, Billericay.

"I'll be praying for our players, that they may be able to give the best of their God-given talent, and for safety for everyone travelling to Cardiff," he says.
