Alan: Fingers Crossed

Alan Pardew hopes that none of his players get injured in the final preparations for Cardiff on Saturday as he looks to take a full squad to Wales for the final game of the season.

Excepting Richard Garcia, who is doing rehab in Australia after sustaining cruciate damage playing for his country, Alan currently has a complete complement of players to choose from.

He implemented an injury prevention programme and says:

"That programme is now reaping its benefits; you have to get lucky that you don't get the serious injuries that you can get at any time, but the strains and the pulls and everything we have nearly eliminated - and it is important that continues.

"If it does then I will probably have one of the rare luxuries of any playoff team of having a fully fit squad to choose from."

Which will mean breaking the hearts of some good players who will not even make it to the bench in Cardiff...

"There is no easy route around that - it is part and parcel of what football is like, and people forget about that," he says.

"They get paid a lot of money, they work and focus themselves for a game, and then sit in a stand.

"It is a real mental bashing that they take and at this time it is a horrible experience for any player.

"But you have to take it positively and if you don't make it - and there will be some younger players that don't - you have look on it as a building of character."
