Adam's Aim

Adam Nowland is aiming to follow former Wimbledon colleagues Jobi McAnuff and Nigel Reo-Coker on to the first team score sheet as soon as possible.

Adam, who wetted his whistle with a first goal for the reserves midweek against Fulham, has seen Jobi and Nigel open their accounts in recent weeks, and he says:

"I am slightly jealous, I won't lie, but at the same time I am very pleased for them.

"They are both very good players who have been working hard and have done very well.

"Nigel, particularly, has played a lot of games but Jobi has not let anyone down when he has played.

"Given the opportunity he has done himself justice and his goal the other day was fantastic.

"He was excellent in the reserves the other day just behind Don Hutchison and made a lot of runs - he can do well wherever he plays."

Of his last minute winner for the second string, he adds:

"It happened right at the end of the game; it was great timing.

"I played a one two with Don Hutchison, found myself one on one with the keeper, and just slotted it through his legs.

"It was good to get my first goal for West Ham even though it was in the reserves.

"It was nice to get on the score sheet again, and more importantly get 90 minutes under my belt.

"It was a good performance with another clean sheet - that is nine unbeaten with the reserves - so we are doing very well.

"We have to take it from the reserves to the first team; at whatever level you are performing for West Ham you have got to do the business and win the game.

"It would be nice to take it into the first team as soon as possible."

Adam, who will at least be on the bench on Saturday, was not involved at Millwall but he admits:

"It was horrible to watch, very frustrating.

"I am not a very good substitute because I hate watching on the sidelines.

"It was unfortunate; the lads are very disappointed with the performance and the result especially.

"We didn't want to let the fans down because it is a big derby but we have to move on from it and we need all three points against Gillingham.

"It is all about putting that behind us now and not dwelling on it.

"Whatever team the gaffer puts out has to go and put a good show on for the fans - and get a result, especially in front of the home fans."

As for training in the aftermath of the 4-1 loss, he says:

"The lads are always sharp in training and it has been as upbeat as it can be even though the lads were down after the result.

"Straight away the gaffer's attitude was to get on with preparing for the next game - if you dwell on things that is when a game can pass you by and you miss out on the win.

"It is all about the next three points now."

Gillingham beat West Ham earlier in the season, before Adam was on board, and he says:

"I don't think the lads will be thinking about the last game against them - but we will be wanting to put one over on them as they have taken some points off us."
