Jon's A Matt Fan

Jon Harley says he thoroughly relishes playing down the left hand side with Matthew Etherington.

"It is up to me to make an angle off of him when he gets the ball; I enjoy playing alongside him.

"He is a bit fast when he is in full flow but that can only be good for him and the club," he says of the man who has hit top form.

"He had a little rest at the weekend and he came back bubbling on Tuesday; you could see the confidence in him, he was on fire, and he deserved that hat trick.

"He works hard up and down and gets a lot of crosses in; I think the gaffer was getting at him for not scoring enough but he did that on Tuesday by getting the three goals."

As to whether Jon remains beyond the end of his loan spell to carry on working with the hero of the hour remains to be seen.

When the three months are up he has to be signed permanently or sent back to Fulham, where he is out of contract in the summer.

"Nothing has been said; I just have to keep plugging away and see what happens," he says.

Looking at the win over Wimbledon following on from draws against their fellow strugglers Burnley and Walsall, he says:

"It was a good result for us on the back of a couple of disappointing games; we did a good professional job and we will take that to Sunderland with a bit more confidence.

"Once we scored the first, and more so the second, the boys just seemed to get more of a lift.

"We have always had the belief, but I think we needed those two goals just to settle us.

"Obviously we wanted to get the Walsall game out of the way, and it was fortunate there were only a couple of days to go until Wimbledon.

"That is out of our systems now; it is a couple of points dropped but we have to look to the future now."

As for the home form, he adds:

"I don't really see it as being a jinx, I just think the boys need to get some more results at home to make it the fortress that it should be.

"It is a big ground and it is intimidating for clubs to go there - and the crowd do their job really well.

"We just feel we should be getting more results than we have been.

"The win on Tuesday has put us into third so we go to Sunderland wanting to stay in that position.

"I know they are not quite the top eight but they have four or five games in hand so if they win them they would be right up there.

"It is going to be a massive game for us, as all of them are now anyway - but that will be the toughest, I think."
