Christian Soldiers On

Christian Dailly played with 14 stitches in his forehead on Saturday but insists: I forgot all about it.

Christian, who was taken off during the Fulham game with the head wound, was adamant he would play on Saturday - despite a gash that was accompanied by two black eyes - and he says:

"It's not that bad; it felt okay, I spoke to the doctor about it the day before and he said it would be fine.

"I just had to be careful I didn't open up the wound again because if you get blood on your face they make you go off - as happened the other night.

"You don't want to get into a situation where the team has to change because of that; it would have been a bit daft, but the doctors were brilliant.

"It was pleasing to play in the game and get the win.

"To be honest it wasn't that sore; I just got on with it and didn't really think about it once the game was underway.

"It was fine, but some of the boys said 'what are you doing, you are mental' - but the main thing is we got the win, though we could have scored more."

Christian dismisses the injuries he gets with a smile and adds:

"I get my fair share of broken noses and stuff but I suppose that happens when you get your head in; I have broken my jaw as well and that tends to be the type of thing I normally get.

"The pleurisy wasn't normal though and hopefully that is the only time I get that!

"And the head will be healing quite well by the time we play Burnley."

Christian thinks that Daniel Gabbidon should have been sent off for pulling back Bobby Zamora in the first half and says:

"To be honest he probably should have gone but maybe Tomas was a wee bit lucky not to go as well just before half time when the referee was being very petty about what he wanted.

"I didn't really know what was going on there; they are meant to encourage free flowing football but he was moving it back half a yard just to make a point.

"In the end it all worked out okay so we are pleased."

Christian was also happy to have kept a clean sheet against Rob Earnshaw, the architect of Scotland's misfortune when he played for Wales in the recent 4-0 rout of Scotland - Christian played midfield that day - and he says:

"He is a livewire but I thought we handled him okay and we were pleased with the day's work.

"Saturday was a continuation of how we have been playing so hopefully we can keep the pressure on."
