Pards On Plans

Alan Pardew says the wage bill at the club will have to be reduced but insists he will not diminish the overall quality of his squad.

"If we stay as we are I think we will win the league," he enthuses, "but if we get disruption to that, with key players being sold because of financial pressures, we will have to make sure the ones we bring in are just as good.

"I think the way it has been explained to me is that the wage bill does need to come down and there must be some movement in that.

"We will have to see how that pans out, but I am certainly hoping it doesn't weaken us - and that is the key.

"We are in a position where we can't sustain a wage bill like we have got in division one - and everybody knows that.

"We have to face reality at times - and deal with it."

That is exactly what he intends to do, and in terms of incomings, he explains:

"I haven't really got a lot to play with and we will have to see how everything unfolds."
