There are three senior players missing for the trip to Colchester on Wednesday night - and Steve Lomas is doubtful for the first game of the new campaign.

"We feel Steve Lomas is probably touch and go for Leicester, but no more than that," reveals Alan Pardew.

"Although it will be a big blow to lose him for that, it is also a bonus that he is only going to miss a short period of the preseason.

"Hutch, we are hoping, should be training the back end of the week, and the same goes for Bobby Zamora, who has had an injection on a troublesome knee."

Sergei Rebrov does not travel to Colchester either, and Alan says:

"Sergei is definitely not going to play against Colchester so I hope our fans aren't going to go there expecting to see him."

Mark Noble is ruled out with a minor knee problem.

Young centre half Elliot Ward has signed on loan at Peterborough for a month, and will therefore not make the trip either.

He was a late sub against Barry Fry's side on Saturday, and hopes that the move will give him the chance to experience first team competitive football for the first time after a back injury halted his progress last season.
