Alan On Teddy's 'posh' Debut

Alan Pardew is looking forward to seeing Teddy Sheringham in action against Peterborough on his West Ham debut.

"It is a big game in our preparations so we want to make sure we are at the right levels," he says of West Ham's fourth preseason match.

"The boys have trained very well since they came back from Sweden and Teddy is obviously part of the squad so we are looking for the right performance at Peterborough.

"It is our first public performance in England after the play-off defeat so it is very important that we produce a show and give everyone the hope to achieve the dream that we carry through to this season.

"We need to embed things early and I want to put on a decent performance - that is the most important thing.

"Teddy has shown up well already and I have been very pleased with his contribution so far.

"Obviously we are looking for him to have his debut at Peterborough and get used to what we are about.

"He has fantastic quality and that will come through."

Teddy has settled in quickly after meeting and greeting his new team mates on Thursday - which is no surprise to Alan.

"I take that for granted; you don't have to legislate for that or look after him as such because you just know he is going to be able to deal with whatever is put in front of him," he explains.

"He has taken to the lads quickly and them to him so on that side of things it is fine."

There is just one injured player at the moment and Alan adds:

"We lost Steve Lomas to an impact injury; you can't stop those, so we are pretty pleased with how the preparations have gone so far, and everyone else is fine.

"Everyone looks to be increasing their levels and staying fit, which is the most important thing."

And, despite reports, Alan is confident Steve will be fit for the first game of the season.

"I think he will be okay; it is not as bad as we first feared and we are hoping he has a reasonable chance of making the Anderlecht game, and if he doesn't make that then certainly the first league game."
