Michael: Everything Is Positive

Michael Carrick admits he can't wait to get stuck into the Fulham game this weekend - and says there is huge confidence in the squad which should bode well for the match.

"We have a big game coming up which we are all looking forward to - you always fancy it, especially when you have won a couple of games and everyone starts to think it might be your year," says Michael, anticipating the FA cup trip to Loftus Road.

"But we will just have to see; they are a good team, we will give them the respect they deserve, and hopefully get in the hat for the next round.

"We have proven this season against Tottenham and Wolves that we can be a match for Premier League teams so we are going to have to prove it again.

"There is a good little buzz about the squad now and a self-belief and confidence.

"Even when we went 1-0 down at Bradford we still believed that we could win and I think that showed in the second half.

"It is something maybe we haven't had too much of in the past; we have let our heads go down when the other team have scored, but the gaffer won't let us do that now."

Looking back in detail to the Bradford game, he says:

"We made it hard for ourselves by starting really badly and they had a few chances but we weathered the storm and in the second half pretty much all of the play was in their half after that.

"There was corner after corner and we made the territorial advantage tell in the end.

"We were disappointing for 15 minutes; we said at half time that we had to lift the tempo and that is what everyone did.

"Mattie has gone down with his back and it was hard for Jobi coming in for his debut like that, especially out of position.

"But we changed things around and it clicked; we put pressure on their goal and it counted in the end with Marlon.

"We broke well on them in the second half a few times and nullified their pressure so everyone was delighted - it was a good three points.

"Big Zee has got one of the goals and the lads are pleased about that; they all like him and he has settled in quite quickly.

"I think the goal meant a lot to him because he has been a fan for a while and you could see that on his face because he lost the plot - everyone is happy for him.

"He is home-grown, really, even though he hasn't come through the setup.

"Maybe it means more when you understand the fans that little bit more but either way all the lads give their best; that is what the lads did on Saturday - and it paid off."

Michael is sure that Bobby is going to be a hit at Upton Park and adds:

"Jermain may have scored on his debut last week but we have big Bobby and we are delighted about that; he got a bit of stick I think at Tottenham which was a bit unjust, really, but he is going to prove what a good player he is now.

"He started well enough and playing regularly is going to help; if you are not you can't get a rhythm and it makes it hard but he is looking forward to playing in the coming months."

Michael says he has been stimulated by the influx of new players around him and adds:

"I feel like I am coming into a new team; it is a bit weird but it is working out well and you can't argue with that.

"Also, me, Christian, and Tomas are here from last season and the gaffer has brought some quality players in, which seems to be working out - so everything is okay."
