Hammers Sign Chris Powell

WEST Ham United confirms the signing of Charlton Athletic defender Chris Powell on a free transfer. The 35-year-old former England international full-back has signed a deal until the end of the season, having spent the last three months on loan at Upton Park.

Chris began his career as a trainee at Crystal Palace, before moving on to Southend where he made 248 League appearances.

A two-year spell at Derby County followed, before Chris joined Charlton for £800,000 in June 1998

It was during his time with the Addicks that Chris received a belated call-up to the England national team under new manager Sven Goran Eriksson.

He made his debut in February 2001 against Spain and went on to earn five full international caps. Chris will continue to wear Squad Number 34.
