Luke: Hard Work Ahead

Luke Chadwick reckons that hard graft on the training ground will put things right for the visit to Gresty Road on Saturday.

Looking back at the defeat by Wigan at the weekend, in which he came on at half time to make his second appearance, he says:

"We didn't really perform to our capabilities but Wigan played really well and deserved to win.

"They have got two good strikers who are a handful and work hard; their whole side did well and we didn't do enough to match them.

"Obviously, I would rather come on when the team is winning but I was happy to get another appearance under my belt - though I wasn't happy with the result."

The players were back to work after a day off on Monday, and Luke adds:

"I will be working hard to get a starting place in the team for Crewe, but the manager picks the team and it is up to me to force my way into it.

"I don't think there is any particular reason for the defeat; we are all to blame and no one did enough to beat them.

"We have got the players that have the ability to come back but unfortunately on Saturday it didn't happen and Wigan fully deserved the three points.

"It is up to us to get back to work and put it behind us; all that matters now is Saturday and getting three points at Crewe.

"At this stage of the season every point is important - Crewe is a hard place to go but I am sure if we play to our capabilities we can win the game."

Alan Pardew said when Luke arrived he would need a settling in period, and to that end he was not on the subs' bench for the first game of the season at Leicester.

But after two appearances, albeit coming on from the bench, he says:

"I am really enjoying my time here and settling in."
